Landscape design for the area around St Kvirik in Sočerga – thoughtful planning for the sustainable development of the area
As part of the POSEIDONE project, a landscape design was drawn up for the area around the Church of St Quiricus in Sočerga, which provides an important technical basis for the future development of this distinctive space in the hinterland of the Municipality of Koper.
The landscape design is based on a comprehensive understanding of the area, its natural characteristics, cultural landscape and the needs of the local community. In preparing the document, particular attention was paid to involving various stakeholders.
Planning spaces today requires a sensitive and thoughtful approach. Every area has its own characteristics, constraints and potential; it is therefore important that plans are adapted to the area, and not the other way round. The landscape design for the area around St. Kvirik is based on the principle that priority must be given to nature, the quality of the area and sustainable solutions involving minimal intervention. The proposed guidelines therefore emphasise the preservation of the landscape’s identity, the improvement of accessibility and the experience of the space, and the search for solutions that respect the area’s existing natural and cultural values.
The document serves as a tool for both the Municipality of Koper and the local community, as it will form the basis for further spatial planning, guiding the area’s development and the preparation of future projects. At the same time, it opens up opportunities for gradual, sustainable and well-considered improvements to the area.
The POSEIDONE project is a strategic cross-border project under the Interreg Italy–Slovenia programme, which brings together partners from both countries to develop approaches to nature conservation, the enhancement of biodiversity and sustainable land management.
