Practical Workshops in the Mediterranean Garden Purissima for Garden Enthusiasts – MEDS Garden+ Project
On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the Mediterranean Garden Purissima in Škofije hosted two expert workshops designed for gardening enthusiasts looking to enhance their knowledge of fruit tree pruning and garden preparation for the new season. This was the perfect time for both activities.
Workshop: Garden Preparation and Plant Propagation
Before the start of the season, thorough garden preparation is crucial, as it directly affects plant growth and yield. The workshop was led by expert Slavica Debelak from KZ Agraria Koper, who introduced participants to:
- How to choose the right seeds and seedlings for spring planting.
- Methods of plant propagation and conditions for successful seedling cultivation.
-Proper bed preparation for vegetables and aromatic herbs.
Participants rolled up their sleeves and engaged in hands-on transplanting. This experience not only provided them with valuable advice but also practical skills to help them create a fertile and well-maintained garden.
Workshop: Pruning of Fruit Trees and Roses
Pruning fruit trees, citrus trees, and roses is essential for their health, productivity, and aesthetic appeal. The workshop was led by Borut Troha from KZ Agraria Koper, who introduced participants to:
- How to identify fruit-bearing wood and key shoots in fruit trees.
- Proper pruning techniques for optimal growth and a rich harvest.
- The basics of rose pruning to encourage blooming.
The event was practically oriented, and participants had the opportunity to try different pruning techniques under expert supervision.
Promoting Social Inclusion for Seniors
Both workshops were attended by retirees, contributing to the social inclusion of older adults. Through the MEDS Garden+ project, we not only raise awareness about sustainable management of natural spaces, but also actively encourage older generations to participate in community activities and education.
