As part of the dissemination activities of the T4RAIL IT-SI project, a scientific paper was presented and published at the 25th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications (ICCSA), held at the Galatasaray University in Istanbul, Turkey, in summer 2025. The paper deals with evidence that emerged during the workshop, title "Technological Opportunities in Cross-Border Railway Operations between Italy and Slovenia: Challenges and Potential Impacts”, which took place at the University of Trieste in February 2025. In more detail, the paper reports the highlights of the discussions held in the form of focus groups, to which railway undertakings, logistics companies, local entities responsible for transport issues, and representatives from the Universities of Trieste and Ljubljana participated. Indeed, the paper’s content illustrates, on one hand, the main criticalities of the current cross-border railway services and, on the other hand, the expected benefits of technological interventions, with respect to operational, financial, environmental and social aspects.
