In July and August 2025, the Summer on-demand transports enabled visitors to explore the Kras–Carso cross-border geopark comfortably, sustainably and without worrying about parking. The shuttles connected geological points, tourist attractions, wineries and other interesting locations, thus contributing to better access and sustainable development of the cross-border area.
In the two months of operation, a total of 1,052 people were transported, and 790 transfers were made. We are particularly proud of the Summer on-demand transports. Unlike the already introduced Locally Connected service which runs all year round during the week, Summer on-demand transports were only available in the summer months. Visitors showed great interest on weekends, with 146 people transported in a total of 82 transfers.
If we translate the numbers into practice: on average, there was more than one passenger on each shuttle, or approximately 1.3 passengers. The occupancy rate was even better on the cross-border weekend transports, with an average of almost 2 passengers per trip. This shows that people often used the service together, which further contributed to a lower environmental impact and a more pleasant experience.
The results clearly show that the service was well received: it allowed visitors to access the scattered tourist sites more easily, while reducing the need to use private vehicles. The project made a significant contribution to the development of sustainable mobility and offered visitors and locals a modern, environmentally friendly way to move around the Kras-Carso cross-border geopark.
