WWF AMP Miramare has just ended the first educational activities with students, teachers and educators of SMaC, Comunità di San Martino al Campo of Trieste, promoted by Interreg ITA-SLO POSEIDONE project.
Thirty-six students and teachers of the secondary school have enjoyed the MPA visitor center BioMa (Biodiversitario Marino), "immersing" themselves into the discovery of the rich biodiversity of habitats and species present in the Gulf of Trieste and came into contact with the fascinating world of traditional mussel farming implemented along the coastal strip of the UNESCO MaB Biosphere Reserve of Miramare.
Thanks to a practical microscopy workshop, the students analysed a portion of mussel nest, actively searching for the numerous animal and plant species that grow, feed and find refuge between the shells of the mussels, helped in the recognition of species by WWF staff and by an educational guidebook on mussel farming.
