On Saturday, 21 February 2026, a technical event was held in Ravascletto within the framework of the TORRENT project – Common practices to reduce the risk of watercourse management, funded by the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme. The lecture entitled MOUNTAIN INSTABILITY: monitoring and research to improve territorial safety was delivered by Dr Sara Cucchiaro from the University of Udine. The event attracted 47 participants.
Dr Cucchiaro presented the main challenges in managing mountain torrent catchments and highlighted the importance of modern monitoring techniques, including Digital Terrain Models (DTM), Difference of DTM (DoD) analysis, photogrammetry, drone-based laser scanning and sensor systems for monitoring discharge and sediment dynamics. Special attention was also given to assessing the effectiveness of existing hydraulic-forestry structures and defining maintenance priorities.
The event once again confirmed the importance of combining scientific knowledge and innovative technologies to achieve more effective risk reduction in mountain areas, and concluded with a lively and engaging discussion.
