Shoreline, in collaboration with the other partners of the SeaInsights project, has developed an educational toolkit designed to introduce secondary‑school students to the rich biodiversity of the northern Adriatic and to the research approaches used by scientists to study it. The toolkit has been developed in Italian, Slovenian and English, but its content and certain activities, such as the Memory Game, can also be adapted for younger students.
The toolkit is structured into five distinct modules: Learning about Biodiversity, Engaging with Biodiversity, Protecting Biodiversity, Monitoring Biodiversity, and New Techniques to Monitor Biodiversity. Each module includes a theory lesson lasting between 20 and 40 minutes and a game to test the skills acquired. The games include a memory game to identify the main cetacean species of the Northern Adriatic, a priority game highlighting the values students associate with the sea, a discussion game where students take on the roles of different stakeholders involved in managing marine ecosystems, a cetacean sighting simulation using nine videos, and a practical exercise on DNA extraction.
