On 4 April 2024 the Managing Authority of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme has signed the subsidy contract for the standard project ITINERANT!
The ITINERANT project aims to establish a sustainable tourism strategy for the MAB UNESCO Cross-border Biosphere Reserve of the Julian Alps. The strategy will be based on the cultural heritage and infrastructure development of the protected areas and will seek to address two diametrically opposed problems. On the Italian side, the Julian Prealps Nature Park has been suffering for years from depopulation and abandonment of the territory. On the other hand, the Slovenian side, Triglav National Park, is experiencing a massive influx of tourists and the challenges associated with it.
The lead partner of the ITINERANT project is Julian Prealps Nature Park, which is going to cooperate with 5 project partners and 6 associate partners.
