The tenth collection of contributions from the WABIN Contest – Wigwam Italian Press Award is now available, continuing the initiative to showcase the works produced by young participants within the framework of the Interreg Italy-Slovenia WABIN project.
This new collection takes readers on a journey exploring the relationship between water, territory and communities, bringing together knowledge, memory, traditions and environmental awareness. The ditches of Friuli are at the heart of several contributions, presented as essential elements for water management, but also as small ecosystems rich in biodiversity and evidence of rural culture. Through stories and original perspectives, the contributions highlight the importance of protecting these environments from the effects of drought, pollution and climate change.
The focus then broadens to the Venetian Lagoon and the Brenta Riviera, exploring mills, traditions, economic activities and an environmental heritage increasingly exposed to the effects of climate change. Alongside the memory of local territories, the collection addresses highly topical issues, such as flood prevention through retention basins and the need to use water more responsibly.
Finally, the collection offers a reflection on the universal value of water, comparing realities where access to drinking water is part of everyday life with others where it still represents a challenge. It is an invitation not to take this essential resource for granted and to recognise everyone's responsibility for its protection.
The award ceremony for the winners of the contest will take place in early September in Trieste, during the days dedicated to the Barcolana.
