From 7 to 8 May, representatives of the Kras4us partners visited the Apennines, specifically the Foreste Casetinesi National Park, Monte Falterona and Campigna, and the Protomagno massif.
The study visit was a valuable opportunity to learn about innovative and sustainable grazing practices, biodiversity protection and management of extensive mountain pastures through the experience of the project LIFE Shepforbio.

ShepForBio (Shepherds for Biodiversity in Marginal Mountain Areas) aims to restore three targeted grassland habitats by improving pasture management in Natura 2000 sites in the Apennines.

Grazing is the most effective tool for preserving open spaces within the park in the Apennine area, which is mostly covered by forests.

Mountain pastures are home to many endangered species of flora and fauna, which find ideal conditions for survival and reproduction in these environments.

In the coming years, ShepForBio will restore a total of 345 hectares of grassland.
