Representatives of the Soča Valley Development Centre, The Walk of Peace in the Soča Region Foundation and the lead partner of WALKofPEACE+ project Promo TourismoFVG, at the invitation of the project partner Municipality of Duino Aurisina - Devin Nabrežina, took part in the traditional 10th International Gastronomic, Historical and Didactic Walk "KOHIŠČE 2024". More than 1,500 walkers took part in the march.
The walk is aimed at lovers of Karst, its beauty and sights, with a special emphasis on the presentation of the cultural heritage of the First World War - the remains and traces left by the Great War in this area.
The hiking trail is about 10 km long and has four starting points: from Duino/Devin, Ceroglie/Cerovlje, San Giovanni di Duino/Števerjan and Brestovice The trail runs along the mountains of Gabrnjak and Grmada/Hrmada. From here you have a beautiful view of the Vipava Valley and the Julian Alps. At the summits above Coisce/Kohišče, hikers visited military trenches and outposts from the First World War with the help of guides. In this area, starting from Coisce/Kohišče on the Italian side and Brestovica on the Slovenian side, a new circular route of the WALK of PEACE will be created and signposted with the help of the WALKofPEACE+ project. The investment will be carried out by the project partners, the Municipality of Komen and the Municipality of Duino Aurisina - Devin Nabrežina.
Visitors could taste local Karst delicacies on the hike, and the guides presented the flora and fauna of the area and its history. The walk ended in Coisce/Kohišče, where there was a social event for the walkers, as well as a presentation of the WALKofPEACE+ project and the WALK of PEACE itself.
Next year, part of the march will already follow the trail of the WALK of PEACE and participants will be able to see the path on a new leaflet which will present this part of the WALK of PEACE in three language versions (Slovenian, Italian and English).
