Within the FIRESAFENET project, training on the use of planned burns was conducted in two sessions, from 7 to 13 September and from 14 to 20 September. A total of 48 participants attended the training, including firefighters and civil protection personnel.
Participants were accommodated in shared facilities, which allowed for efficient organization, logistical support, and effective cooperation among teams. The program included 8 hours of theoretical training, focused on defining planned burn tactics, planning based on fire behavior, using weather data, and applying information for decision-making and operational management.
This was followed by 32 hours of practical field training, which included familiarization with equipment, on-site work, and the execution of controlled burns under safe conditions. The training provided participants with valuable hands-on experience in using planned burn techniques as an effective tool for preventing and controlling wildfires.
The activity significantly contributed to strengthening cross-border cooperation between Slovenian and Italian firefighters and civil protection units, enhancing readiness and coordination in responding to wildfire threats in the shared cross-border area.
