On Sunday, 7 June 2026, the courtyard of the headquarters of the Slovenian Cultural and Recreational Association Danica in San Michele del Carso hosted the musical and cultural evening “In vino veritas … a toast in our way”, offering visitors a delightful blend of music, poetry, local wines and traditional flavours.
The event, organised by SDGZ-URES – the Slovenian Regional Economic Association, the Municipality of Savogna d’Isonzo and SKRD Danica, was one of the key events of the BEroots – Between Rivers and Lagoons project, co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme.
The audience was welcomed by the association’s vice-president, Damjan Vižintin, and the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Savogna d’Isonzo, Alenka Florenin. In their opening remarks, they highlighted the long-standing friendship and cooperation with the community of Podnanos, which perfectly reflects the evening’s central message: bringing people together, fostering friendship and strengthening community ties through culture and tradition.
The evening was conceived as a musical and wine-themed journey through the wine-growing regions stretching from Friuli to the Karst. Performances were given by the local choirs Danica and Biseri, conducted by Jana Drassich, and by the guest male vocal group Vihar, led by Matjaž Zobec Slama. The programme was hosted by Borut Vižintin and Alice Mary Tomasini and further enriched by recitations in Slovenian, Italian and Friulian performed by members of the Danica association.
Adding a special touch to the evening were the village gossips Dolka and Tanka, who entertained the audience with humorous dialogues about wine, landscapes and local people. Through their lively exchanges, they guided visitors on a symbolic journey from the Friulian Plain through Breg, Istria, Brda and the Vipava Valley, ending in the home region of the Karst, where the story came full circle.
One of the event’s distinctive features was the combination of the cultural programme with wine tastings and local culinary specialties. The participating wineries – Bortoluzzi, Rado Kocjančič, Draga, Rosa and Kosovelj – presented their wines alongside carefully selected traditional delicacies, offering visitors an authentic experience of the region’s rich gastronomic heritage.
The highlight of the evening was the joint performance by all participants, who raised a toast to summer and, through song, invited the audience to celebrate friendship, cooperation and community spirit.
The event once again demonstrated how music, poetry, wine and gastronomy can serve as a bridge between people, places and cultures. In a warm and welcoming atmosphere, new connections were formed, existing friendships were strengthened, and the spirit of cross-border cooperation promoted by the BEroots project came vividly to life. Visitors left with fond memories of an authentic and enriching experience, proving that truth can be found not only in wine, but also in the joy of sharing meaningful moments together.
