At the beginning of August, we had the special opportunity to host Mr. Alireza Amrikazmi, a member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council, in the cross-border geopark Kras–Carso. His two-day visit was an excellent opportunity to present our area and exchange experiences with one of the world's leading experts on geoparks.
On the first day, he started his tour at the Škocjan Caves Park, had lunch in Rodik, and viewed the fossil collection at the Jože Gustinčič Caving Society Hut near the Vilenica Cave. This was followed by two short stops at the geological profile along the road to Vrhovlje and at the viewpoint of the Sežana archaeological site of Tabor, where the walls of a former hillfort have been preserved. He spent the afternoon in Štanjel, where he explored the old town center, Ferrari's garden, and viewed the exhibitions in the castle museum. He ended the day with a visit to the Karst Living Museum, an area rich in numerous natural phenomena characteristic of the Karst region.
The next morning, he continued his journey from the Lipica Stud Farm to the Glinščica Valley, where he concluded his exploration of the cross-border geopark Kras-Carso.
Mr. Amrikazmi's visit and enthusiasm were a great recognition for our geopark and an incentive for further work. We are proud to have been able to present the wealth of the Karst and Brkini to a guest who, through his work, contributes significantly to the development and recognition of UNESCO Global Geoparks around the world.
