On December 4, 2024, the Blue Economy Forum was held at the InnoRenew Research Institute in Izola, Slovenia, organized by the Italian Trade Agency in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Slovenia. The event brought together high-level experts, engineers, scientists, and institutional representatives to discuss the risks of rising sea levels and flood prevention measures. Among the forum highlights, the Wabin project contributed innovative solutions, sharing best practices and strategies for water management and climate change risk mitigation—a crucial topic, especially in light of recent floods affecting Slovenia and some regions of Italy in 2023.
Topics covered included:
climate change challenges and biodiversity loss in the North Adriatic area; mitigation measures and management of extreme events; infrastructure adaptation and strategic planning; and cross-border cooperation between Italy and Slovenia.
The forum emphasized the importance of understanding the territory, planning structural and non-structural interventions, and promoting a new culture of sustainability and risk management.
