The Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic has been awarded the prestigious CT Award "Connecting Cultures" by Corps Turistique in cooperation with the German trade magazine fvw/Travel talk and CMT Stuttgart, one of the largest tourism fairs in Central Europe.
The award, which is being presented for the third time this year, recognises initiatives and projects in tourism that build intercultural bridges and contribute to intercultural understanding through travel. The latter was also recognised in the Walk of Peace, which highlights the values of peace, understanding and intercultural dialogue through a 500-kilometre cross-border hiking experience from the Alps to the Adriatic and through the learning about history.
"This award is above all a recognition of the good work and cooperation of many individuals and partner institutions from Slovenia and Italy, with whom we are developing the Walk of Peace. This cross-border story has also been developed over the last twenty years with the help of cross-border and transnational Interreg programmes," said Maša Klavora, Director of the Walk of Peace Foundation.
At the award ceremony during the CMT fair in Stuttgart, the award was received on behalf of the Walk of Peace Foundation by Rebeka Kumer Bizjak, Head of the Slovenian Tourist Board in Germany, and Sandra Battigaglia, Public Relations Manager at PromoTurismoFVG.
This year's award also went to the Zeitgeist 24 project from Ireland and the Museum of Religions from Bulgaria, which together with the Walk of Peace were selected as equal winners out of 18 projects from 11 different countries.
