Workshop: Getting to know life in the karst pond

In June 2025, we organized a workshop for the children from the Hrpelje kindergarten at two ponds near the school. Today, ponds play an important role in nature conservation, as they are home to many plant and animal species. The children had the opportunity to closely observe great crested newts and smooth newts, both of which are endangered amphibians. We also admired a grass snake, as well as dragonflies and their larvae. We emphasized that fish do not belong in ponds, as they are an invasive species that threaten amphibians and other native animals.
