GGC
The Go Green Cinema (GGC) project promotes accessibility to quality cinema in a sustainable way in the cross-border area. It will create a network of 18 mobile cultural venues for digital film screenings, enhancing sustainable culture and tourism. Training programs will prepare staff and tourism operators to organize innovative and sustainable cultural events. The GGC will also extend to remote locations without adequate film infrastructure, engaging cross-border audiences and contributing to CEC GO 2025 programs. Working with external experts, it will introduce sustainable measures in cultural events, creating a public handbook and working with local actors to build a sustainable tourism offer, promoting reflection on environmental protection and sustainable tourism. The goal is to raise awareness of the role of culture and heritage in an innovative way, encouraging responsible behavior in visitors and cultural tourism operators.
The aim of the project was to establish a network of cultural venues on both sides of the border, called Cinema itinerante Isonzo – Potujoči Kino Soča, equipped with modern mobile facilities for screening digital film content (DCP) in local communities. Through professional training programmes, the project also aimed to train technical staff as well as cultural and tourism operators in the organisation of innovative and sustainable cultural events, while encouraging them to engage in initiatives with a European dimension.
A DCP projector, together with all the necessary supporting equipment, was purchased in order to meet all the indicators and specifications defined during the planning phase. This made it possible to launch the Cinema itinerante Isonzo – Potujoči Kino Soča.
In 2024, between 13 June and 27 August, 15 screenings were held in 12 locations across Slovenia and Italy, attracting a total of approximately 1,350 spectators. The programme also included meetings with the authors and creators of the films, who presented their work and took part in discussions with the audience.
In 2025, the programme was expanded and further developed: between 1 February and 5 September, 26 outdoor film screenings were organised. The programme featured a diverse selection of Slovenian and international films, documentaries, archive screenings and related events, including meetings with filmmakers, themed evenings and presentations of research activities. Particular attention was paid to cross-border cooperation, the promotion of film heritage and the active involvement of local communities.
A training course was organised for audiovisual technicians and film projection operators. Of the 39 candidates who enrolled, 26 successfully completed the training. Some of them subsequently took part, as technical assistants, in the organisation of selected annual film programmes carried out as part of the project.
The workshop was led by experienced mentors Bojan Bajsič, Urban Košir, Antonio Mastrolia and Mateja Sulič. The programme was divided into five modules: two theoretical modules, for a total of 12 hours; two practical modules, also totalling 12 hours; and one individual module.
A range of training activities was organised: an online workshop on “Green Transition and Adaptation to Climate Change in Culture”; an online introductory event on climate action, organised with an organisation that supports the cultural sector in reducing its environmental impact and adapting to climate change; training programmes for the green transition in the cultural sector, “Sustainable Mobility” and “Green Office”; and participation in the international forum “Sustainable Digital Transformation for Creativity”, held in Gorizia.
