Project summary

Policy objective: PO 2 - A greener, low-carbon transitioning towards a net zero carbon economy and resilient Europe by promoting clean and fair energy transition, green and blue investment, the circular economy, climate change mitigation and adaptation and risk prevention and management

Specific objectiveSO 4 - Promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account eco-system based approaches

TypologyStandard project

The CLIMASAFE project intends to address one of the most pressing challenges of the Italy-Slovenia cross-border area: the increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme climatic phenomena such as heat waves, cold snaps and floods, which severely strain the local economic fabric. These climate events have serious repercussions on productive activities, in particular on SMEs. CLIMASAFE addresses the difficulty of these SMEs in rapidly adapting operational processes and strategies to cope with climate emergencies; the common challenge is to turn this vulnerability into an opportunity to strengthen the economic and social fabric.

Objectives
  • support SMEs in identifying and managing their climate risks through tailor-made solutions that improve their adaptive capacity;
  • promote an integrated approach that combines technological innovation, strategic planning and cross-border cooperation for sustainable growth, increasing the capacity of enterprises to prevent and cope with climate and energy challenges;
  • improve the preparedness, emergency management capacity and resilience of energy-intensive SMEs to extreme weather phenomena by developing innovative and replicable solutions;
  • stimulate the participation of cost-intensive SMEs in the open call for pilot actions by promoting active involvement in the testing of the digital platform.
Output

Expected results include an increase in the resilience of SMEs, a reduction in costs related to climate and energy risks, and an improvement in the overall competitiveness of the local economic fabric. These benefits will extend not only to energy-intensive SMEs, but also to other businesses, public institutions and stakeholders, strengthening collaborative networks and promoting sustainable and resilient growth.
