As part of the cross-border Ero-STOP project, a joint action plan for soil erosion control was developed for three pilot areas in Slovenia and Italy. The document is based on in-depth analysis of the area, collaboration with local stakeholders, and the identification of the causes of erosion in different landscape types.
The Slovenian pilot area, located in the Vipava Hills in the Municipality of Ajdovščina, is characterized by steep flysch slopes, terraced vineyards, and other permanent crops, as well as frequent soil interventions that, during heavy rainfall, cause significant runoff erosion.
In Italy, the action plan addresses two different environmental contexts: the flat and intensively cultivated agricultural landscape between the provinces of Venice and Treviso, where fertile soil is progressively lost, and the karst area of the Municipality of Duino Aurisina, where the soils are shallow and particularly vulnerable to loss of vegetation cover.
The Action Plan brings together a series of concrete technical, territorial, and agricultural measures, tailored to individual contexts—from proper intervention planning, to effective water drainage, to the constant maintenance of soil vegetation cover, to greater awareness-raising and monitoring of interventions on the ground. The Plan's objective is to offer practical solutions applicable both in the pilot areas and, more generally, in other cross-border areas with similar vulnerability characteristics.
