From April 6 to 9, 2025, the AI-GRAPE project participated in the prestigious international wine fair Vinitaly in Verona. The event provided an excellent opportunity to promote the project, present the results achieved so far, and establish connections with stakeholders from the worlds of viticulture and innovation.
Our project partner Le Carline represented us at the fair. Since 1988, the company has been committed to organic grape and wine production. Their philosophy, based on sustainability and respect for nature, fits perfectly with the goals of AI-GRAPE.
Vinitaly is the largest international wine and spirits fair in Italy, now in its 59th edition. Each year, it attracts more than 90,000 visitors from over 140 countries to Verona. The fair brings together winemakers, professionals, distributors, and wine lovers, offering a unique opportunity for networking, discovering new markets, and showcasing innovations.
AI-GRAPE is a project within the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia 2021–2027 Programme, co-funded by the European Union. It is implemented under Priority Axis 1 – A Smarter Europe, which promotes innovation, digitalization, and sustainable growth.
The project introduces precision viticulture using drones equipped with thermal, multispectral, and hyperspectral cameras. These tools help monitor vineyard conditions and support the development of a forecasting model for early detection of three pests:
- Scaphoideus titanus (American grapevine leafhopper),
- Eupoecilia ambiguella (European grapevine moth),
- Lobesia botrana (European grape berry moth).
The goal is to help growers take timely and targeted protective measures, reduce pesticide use, and improve both economic and environmental efficiency.
Together for a smarter future of viticulture 🍇
Participation at Vinitaly 2025 further strengthened our commitment to sustainable and digital solutions in viticulture. Combining research expertise with the practical experience of partners such as Le Carline enables the transfer of innovation into everyday practice and enhances the sector's resilience to climate and economic challenges.
