The BioTech2Agri project continues its path to support agri-food SMEs from Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Slovenia in exploring and adopting innovative biotechnological solutions.
Following the closure of the call and the selection of participating companies, Service 1 – Technical Feasibility Assessment is currently underway. This is the first step of a structured support pathway designed to assist companies in developing new solutions for the transformation and valorisation of agri-food products. At this stage, project partners are working closely with the selected SMEs through company visits, meetings and technical discussions.
This service provides companies with the opportunity to preliminarily assess the technical feasibility of their innovation ideas, through direct interaction with project experts.
The process includes several activities:
- Preliminary case analysis, aimed at understanding the company’s needs and innovation potential;
- On-site visits or interviews, to collect relevant information on the production and technological context;
- Technical assessment, resulting in a pre-feasibility report providing initial insights into the viability of the proposed solution;
- Evaluation of innovation potential, with a focus on sustainability, replicability and scalability.
The project ideas under assessment range from the valorisation of agri-food by-products – such as those derived from apple processing or spent coffee grounds – to innovative solutions related to berries and traditional products.
The objective of Service 1 is to provide companies with an initial technical and strategic orientation, helping them understand whether and how to further develop their innovation projects.
The outcomes of this phase will also serve as the basis for the next steps of the BioTech2Agri pathway, including support for business model development, guidance on funding opportunities and participation in cross-border networking events involving companies and experts from the Italy-Slovenia area. These activities take place within a cross-border cooperation framework, fostering the exchange of knowledge and approaches between territories.
Through this approach, the project aims to bring SMEs closer to the opportunities offered by biotechnology, supporting the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for the agri-food sector.
