On 27 August 2025, the Circular Rainbow project, co-financed by the Interreg Italy–Slovenia Programme, took part in the 63rd International Fair of Agriculture and Food AGRA in Gornja Radgona, the most important agri-food event in Slovenia. The fair hosted 1,710 exhibitors from 35 countries across more than 70,000 m² of exhibition space.
Circular Rainbow promotes circular aquaculture in trout farming, with the aim of improving production processes, strengthening environmental and economic sustainability, and contributing to climate change mitigation.
At the KGZS – Institute of Kranj stand, shared with the project partner Ribogojnica Vodomec, visitors could explore project activities, receive informative materials, and taste a selection of fish products. The stand also featured the other project partners: the University of Udine (Italy), BlueFarm (Italy), and the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana.
Visitors had the opportunity to discover the benefits of Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) through:
- a demonstration model of a RAS facility,
- a promotional video illustrating the technology,
- informative brochures produced by project partners, highlighting the nutritional value of aquaculture products and the importance of healthy eating.
In collaboration with Ribogojnica Vodomec, the stand also offered a tasting of RAS-based fish products, including smoked trout spread, rainbow trout caviar, and both cold- and hot-smoked trout, which received very positive feedback.
The booth welcomed more than 50 visitors, including representatives of public institutions, research organisations, fishermen, families, and citizens. The mix of audiences enabled both technical-scientific discussions and effective outreach to the general public, raising awareness of technological innovation in aquaculture and the nutritional value of fish.
Participation in AGRA 2025 confirmed the growing interest in circular aquaculture and represents a strong motivation to continue the project’s activities with renewed enthusiasm.
A feature on the event will also be published in the October issue of Zelena Dežela magazine.
