As part of the DAIRY+ project, partners have jointly defined a common methodology for mapping the dairy supply chain between the Upper Soča Valley, the Friuli Venezia Giulia territory bordering Slovenia, and the province of Venice. This work phase aims to understand the existing ecosystem and available by-products better and identify sustainable development opportunities for the sector.
The mapping will have three main components:
- Analysis of the Cross-Border Ecosystem and Available Resources, in which key players in the dairy sector will be identified, including producers, cooperatives, and sector organizations but also research centers, experimental infrastructure, and training opportunities that support innovation and sustainable utilization of dairy by-products.
- Targeted Value Chain Information, in which specific data will be collected on companies involved in milk production and processing, including production volumes, products offered, processes in use, and market context. Current by-product management practices will also be explored, with a focus on circular improvement opportunities.
- Pathways for Circular Valorization of Dairy By-Products, which will focus on assessing the challenges and opportunities related to the sustainable valorization of dairy by-products, identifying existing best practices and possible innovative solutions to be implemented.
This activity will provide an updated picture of the cross-border dairy supply chain and identify targeted strategies to improve the sustainability and efficiency of the sector, including diversifying dairy supply. Collaboration among DAIRY+ partners will ensure that the results obtained can be leveraged to promote a circular and competitive economy in the Programme area.
