The Hall of the Alto Adriatico Technology Centre in Spilimbergo hosted, on Wednesday 27 August, a training meeting dedicated to the role of bees as bioindicators and to new technologies in support of beekeeping. The event was part of the activities of the European project Bee2gether, co-financed by the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme.
Throughout the afternoon, experts and researchers took turns presenting the results of the project and its future prospects. After the opening remarks by Stefano Bovolenta (University of Udine), Tiziana Perin (Alto Adriatico Technology Centre) presented the activities and objectives of Bee2gether. Agronomist Marco De Colle explored the potential and limitations of electronic hives, and together with Perin illustrated the functioning of the new Bee2gether App, designed for remote apiary monitoring.
The day continued with a focus on data collected during the 2024 season regarding colony health, followed by the contribution of Antonella Stravisi (University of Udine), who explained how domestic and wild bees can serve as valuable indicators for monitoring the presence of pesticides and heavy metals in the environment, thanks to pollen analysis.
The final part of the event was dedicated to discussion with participants and concluded with a convivial moment, offering an opportunity for informal exchange among beekeepers, researchers, and enthusiasts.
📌 The event was valid as an update for beekeeping experts and included the issuing of a certificate of participation.
