Today, 16 September, the Italian final event of the European project RECREATE – Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia took place in Spinea, with the inauguration of new waste bins installed at the Nievo and Anna Frank primary schools of the Municipality of Spinea, project partner.
The true protagonists of the day were the pupils, who actively contributed to the collection of materials and, together with their teachers, turned awareness-raising into concrete action.
The new bins, designed for separate waste collection, were created thanks to the recycling of fiber-reinforced composites (CFR) collected during the spring 2024 campaign, which saw strong involvement of the local community: a total of 669 kg of waste collected, of which 180 kg of CFR (motorbike and bicycle helmets, shower trays, tennis rackets, skis, sleds and other items).
Thanks to an innovative recovery process, these materials – usually destined for landfill – have been transformed into new urban furnishings for waste separation. The bins were developed in design and visual identity in collaboration with Veritas Spa and successfully passed quality and durability tests carried out by an independent company.
Mayor Franco Bevilacqua highlighted how the project represents “a primary line of what can be done to implement circular economy within public bodies.”
The Director of the Upper Adriatic Technology Park stressed the project’s contribution to building a more green, innovative and sustainable Europe.
During the inauguration, videos and interviews were shown, collecting the voices of citizens and teachers, enthusiastic about taking part in an experiment that has made Spinea a concrete example of innovation and sustainability at European level.
