As part of the GREVISLIN project, implemented during the previous programming period, significant measures to improve the ecological connectivity of the Isonzo River were successfully completed. These included the construction of a fish pass and the installation of a permanent river flow monitoring station at the dam on the Soča River in Sagrado, enabling better water regime management and ensuring fish passage.
These measures were further enhanced through the GRENNAT project, which focuses on improving natural habitats and the long-term monitoring of the Isonzo River. The project partner Consorzio di Bonifica della Venezia Giulia further upgraded the fish pass by installing special bristles designed to facilitate the passage of eels.
This enhancement was implemented in response to technical requirements issued in 2020 by ETPI – the Fish Resources Protection Authority of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, with the aim of ensuring the fish pass functions effectively for all relevant fish species.
As part of the project activities, fish fauna monitoring was also carried out, providing valuable insights into the dynamics of the river ecosystem and supporting more effective long-term management of the Isonzo River.
Thanks to these completed measures, the Isonzo River is one step closer to becoming a more connected, passable, and ecologically balanced river corridor within the cross-border area.
