The Inter Bike III project envisages the construction of a landing stage for a boat that will allow the development of boat and bicycle intermodality along the “GiraLemene”. The “GiraLemene” is a cycle-pedestrian itinerary with natural-historical character, which runs along the Lemene River. Starting from the Stalis Mills in Gruaro and arriving at the Port of Falconera - or vice versa, starting from the sea and arriving inland - crosses and connects the four municipalities of Gruaro, Portogruaro, Concordia Sagittaria and Caorle in a single route.
The common thread of this cycle route is water: starting from the hinterland, along the route of the GiraLemene itinerary one can encounter the Stalis Mills and Villa Bombarda in Portovecchio. The Stalis Mills are a complex of recently restored mills located on an island in the middle of the Lemene River, near an ancient river ford, exactly on the border between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto. Their history is closely linked to that of the nearby Santa Maria di Sesto Abbey. Descending towards Portogruaro, it is worth visiting Villa Bombarda, a luxurious Venetian villa that should be restored. It is surrounded by greenery and the river Lemene flows by its side.
The ride continues to Portogruaro, an elegant town famous for its medieval town hall and its fascinating atmosphere and well-preserved monuments that recall the long and happy period when the city was part of the Serenissima Republic of Venice. After Portogruaro, the GiraLemene takes us to Concordia Sagittaria, an ancient Roman colony dating back to the 1st century B.C., where it is possible to visit the old town centre, the cathedral and baptistery, and the remains of the theatre, the Forum, the Roman baths and a long stretch of the ancient city wall.
Pedalling towards the sea, still in the municipality of Concordia Sagittaria, we arrive at the Bosco delle Lame, a rare example of a lowland forest and wetland area of great interest for birds. Continuing along the river, the river landscape is characterised by the presence of the "cavane", thatched huts for fishermen's boats, and the fishing scales suspended over the water. After passing through the small rural village of San Gaetano, we reach the end of the route, in Caorle, at the picturesque island Isola dei Pescatori di Falconera, with its ancient fishermen's huts.
The whole route is about 38 km long, with cycle paths and some farm field and gravel sections. From March to November, it can be cycled by mountain bike, e-bike or city bike. In summer, it is better to cycle along it during the cooler hours, as many sections are exposed to the sun.
