On 27 and 28 March 2025 the DG Regional and Urban Policy organized the Interreg GO! event, marking a significant milestone in the preparation of the post-2027 Interreg programmes. Held in the twin cities of Gorizia (Italy) and Nova Gorica (Slovenia) — jointly designated as the European Capitals of Culture 2025 — the event concluded the extensive consultation process launched at the 2023 Interreg Annual Event in Santiago de Compostela.
The conference brought together around 500 local, regional, national, and European decision-makers, including key policymakers such as Mr. Raffaele Fitto, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Cohesion and Reforms; Ms. Marta Kos, EU Commissioner for Enlargement; and ministers and high-level representatives from Slovenia, Poland, and the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, among others.
Central discussions focused on how Cohesion Policy Interreg programmes will address shared challenges, including border security, coordinated migration responses, environmental threats, disaster prevention, and reducing barriers in public services. Cooperation with EU candidate and neighbouring countries, including those in the EU’s outermost regions, was also emphasized.
After the official ceremony, the visitors split into several groups; in Palmanova Operations Center, they received detailed presentations on CROSSIT SAFER and projects that were born as capitalization of it, including our project IN4SAFETY. The visitors expressed great appreciation for the collaborative efforts and tangible results achieved in the field of Civil Protection through our cross-border cooperation.
The event was co-organized with the Interreg Italy-Slovenia programme, the EGTC GO!, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, the Slovenian Ministry for Cohesion and Regional Development, and Interact.
