The FIRESAFENET project officially launched on June 18, 2025, at the Chamber of Crafts and Small Business in Nova Gorica, marking the beginning of a significant cross-border effort to improve wildfire prevention, response, and management between Italy and Slovenia.
The event opened with a public presentation where project partners introduced the project’s objectives, planned activities, and participating organizations. A press conference was held prior to the meeting to brief media representatives.
The project’s planned activities were outlined by lead partners of the three main work packages. The first work package, led by ISIG, will develop a joint action plan for cross-border wildfire response, starting with an online meeting to gather partner input. The second work package, coordinated by GENG, focuses on improving capacities for wildfire prevention and joint management through study visits, training sessions, and the eventual creation of a virtual training center. Partners were encouraged to identify their training needs and begin equipment procurement procedures promptly. The third work package, led by the University of Trieste, will develop digital tools for environmental monitoring and simulation models to support risk management and rescue operations.
The meeting wrapped up at 12:30 PM and was followed by a joint lunch, during which partners continued discussions and strengthened cooperation.
The FIRESAFENET project represents a critical collaboration aimed at enhancing wildfire preparedness and response across borders, protecting communities and natural environments from increasing wildfire risks.
