A new story of an old house: a bridge between nature and cultural heritage
In Sagrado, on 18 September 2025, the renovated former water infrastructure caretaker’s house along the Soča River was officially inaugurated. The building, which for decades oversaw an important section of the river, has, after a thorough restoration, gained a new role as a space for visitors, education, and the presentation of local heritage.
The renovation was carried out within the cross-border project GRENNAT, whose goal is the preservation of natural and cultural heritage and the promotion of sustainable development in the area. The project was also supported by the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, the foundation Fondazione Carigo, and the Consorzio di Bonifica della Venezia Giulia. The renovated building now hosts a modern information point with exhibition and multifunctional spaces, presenting the achievements of the GREVISLIN and GRENNAT projects, focused on sustainable management of the cross-border area and the protection of natural and cultural values.
At the opening ceremony, representatives of the participating institutions emphasized that the renovated house is not only a restored historical building but also a symbol of the successful integration of cultural heritage with environmental protection. With its new content, it will serve both residents and visitors, contributing to greater visibility of the Soča River area.
