On Wednesday, 4 March 2026, another presentation of the book Dolga pot do miru (The Long Road to Peace), created within the BeWoP project, took place. This time, the event was held at the Knjigarna kavarna Maks in Nova Gorica, where the book was presented by Boštjan Videmšek in conversation with historian Kaja Širok. The event offered visitors an in-depth reflection on war, peace, and the responsibility that both individuals and society bear toward them.
During the discussion, the speakers addressed various conflict areas—from Galicia and Auschwitz to Srebrenica, Ukraine, and Gaza—which are described in the book through Boštjan’s personal experiences and testimonies. A key idea that emerged was that history is not merely a distant past, but a cyclical process, as the horrors of war continue to accompany us today. The discussion also foregrounded ethical questions: who has the right to speak about war, on whose behalf, and with what legitimacy—or guilt—and with what level of (un)awareness.
The sincere and emotionally charged conversation conveyed a clear message: the peace we live in Slovenia must not be taken for granted. Peace is a value that requires constant effort and an ideal that should unite society as a whole. The event left a strong impression, with visitors remaining deep in thought even after it concluded, confirming that such events create space for essential and timely social reflection.
