On March 12, 2025, the second version of the urban waste bin prototype, made from recycled Fiber-Reinforced Composite (CFR), was presented at the headquarters of Gruppo Veritas S.p.A. in Mirano. This initiative is part of the project “Enhancement of the circular economy model for the collection and recovery of Fiber-Reinforced Composites containing waste”, acronym RECREATE, co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg Italy-Slovenia program.
The event was attended by Dr. Tiziana Perin, Dr. Margherita Madaro, and Dr. Jonathan Palma from the Upper Adriatic Technology Park (lead partner), Deputy Mayor Dr. Emanuele Ditadi and Dr. Monica Salviato from the Municipality of Spinea (project partner), Dr. Franco Mioni from Gees Recycling (project partner), Dr. Stefano Varotto, Dr. Lisa Olivetto, and Dr. Luca Zamengo from Gruppo Veritas, and Dr. Cosima Trevisanello from Venetian Cluster.
The meeting aimed to present the updated prototype to Gruppo Veritas and the Municipality of Spinea, revised by Gees Recycling following feedback received during the first presentation in December 2024. The event provided an opportunity to introduce the new features, present the installation accessories and manuals, and verify the prototype’s compliance with waste collection regulations. The waste bin was approved as the final version, and production will now begin.
Next, the Municipality of Spinea will receive a donation of urban waste sorting bins, which will be installed at various locations throughout the city. Thanks to the RECREATE project, a new circular economy model for CFR materials is being implemented, allowing for sustainable reuse, reducing waste production, and improving waste management in the area. This initiative represents the first urban pilot case for the recovery of such materials.
"The ultimate goal is to demonstrate that CFR waste can be included in recyclable waste and not dispersed into the environment. For now, we can only thank the citizens who have enthusiastically joined the project," commented Deputy Mayor Emanuele Ditadi.
