On June 27th, 2025 the Managing Authority of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme has signed the financig contract of the standard project BioTiles.
The BioTiles project aims to counteract the effects of climate change on the cross-border lagoons of Grado-Marano, Stjuža in Strunjan and Škocjanski zatok near Koper by increasing biodiversity, ecosistem resilience, and environmental sustainability. The project will work on a graphical representation of a sediment erosion and material deposition model of the lagoon and will also set up a Lagoon HUB to collect, centralize, and share data and knowledge about lagoon biodiversity. A cross-border strategy for the sustainable management of lagoons will be developed.
The Lead partner of the project is Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale OGS, who will work with 5 project partners and 6 associated partners.
