Fashion for Change: Komunala Izola Showcases Sustainable Creativity
As part of the Waste Design 2.0 project, coordinated by the Municipality of Postojna as the lead partner, Komunala Izola organized an inspiring event that used fashion to highlight the importance of responsible waste management and material reuse.
The fashion show, held in the former Church of St. Catherine next to the old Italian school in Izola, encouraged visitors to reflect on their consumption habits and the impact of fast fashion on the environment.
Environmental Challenges Through the Lens of Fashion
On the runway, models of all ages presented creative outfits made from second-hand clothing donated to the Reuse Center (CUP) of Komunala Izola, as well as designs created from textile scraps.
The creative transformations were led by Magdalena Šori, head of the Reuse Center.
The Director of Komunala Izola, Robi Flego, emphasized that the fashion runway is not only a place for clothing but also a platform for stories that teach us environmental responsibility: “It’s important that we reflect on our consumer habits and take steps toward a more sustainable way of living.”
Intergenerational Connection and Creativity
A unique aspect of the event was the intergenerational participation, as representatives of all age groups took part in the fashion show, highlighting that sustainable fashion is accessible to everyone.
Adding her creative touch was young designer Naja Stanić, who focuses on transforming and redesigning used clothing.
The enthusiastic audience greeted the event with great interest, confirming that awareness of reuse and responsible consumption is growing stronger.
The message of the evening was clear – “Wear the Change.”
The event was organized in cooperation with CKŠP Izola, the Friends of Youth Association Izola, and the Municipality of Izola, and co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme (Waste Design 2.0 project).
