On Thursday, 22 January 2026, the Symposium on Good Practices for Biodiversity Conservation in the Agricultural Landscape of the Karst took place in Izola, bringing together approximately 60 participants.
The event was dedicated to the exchange of knowledge and experience among experts in the fields of nature conservation, biology, and ecology, as well as other stakeholders such as landowners, farmers, decision-makers, locals, and nature enthusiasts involved in biodiversity conservation in agricultural landscapes. The symposium was structured around three thematic sections:
1. Sustainable management of pastures, grasslands, and ponds,
2. Restoration of burned areas and biodiversity,
3. Sustainable management and circular economies in the Karst.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sara Zupan from the Department of Biodiversity (UP FAMNIT), the organizer of the event, emphasized the importance of such meetings for connecting science and practice and for identifying effective solutions for the conservation of the Karst landscape: “The contributions we heard, which are also collected in the book of abstracts, reflect the diversity of approaches to biodiversity conservation in agricultural landscapes. I believe that it is precisely the exchange of knowledge, experience, and perspectives that can lead to more thoughtful and long-term solutions.”
