The third meeting was organized in Postojna, Slovenia. It started with the introductory words from LP who welcomed the PPs and presented the agenda of the meeting.
Within theoretical work package 1, partners discussed the issues of difficult-to-access terrain, as all existing roads are not categorized, both in Italy and Slovenia, which causes issues for firefighters when accessing the terrain. The issue of road classification was therefore emphasized, as it is important to distinguish which roads are suitable for the use of firefighting vehicles during interventions. The problem is being address within this very project; new data will be obtained and roads will be digitized as well as incorporated into paper maps for intervention purposes.
For the purposes of successfully extinguishing cross-border fires, an action plan will need to be prepared. Partners discussed the possibilities of the content of the final action plan. In order to do that, they have already rolled up their sleeves starting with meetings, talks, research as well as a cross-border regional workshop that addressed four key topics related to fire risk management and aftermath, namely prevention, preparedness, intervention, and post-fire measures (organized in October 2024).
Within practical work package 2, pilot actions are foreseen, including the establishment of SOS points in the territory of the Municipality of Ajdovščina, equipment demonstration on the surveillance of affected areas activation by demonstration of drone activation for the detection of threatened/affected areas or support of rescue operations (searching missing people), and pilot test of new tools for managing CP volunteer groups in the territory of Metropolitan City of Venice. The activities will form part of the second period of the project.
The meeting concluded with lunch at the premises of the Business Incubator of Postojna.
