In 2025, the National Institute of Biology (NIB) in Ljubljana organized three events dedicated to spreading knowledge about pollinators and their fundamental role in biodiversity and environmental sustainability.
The events targeted different audiences:
8 May 2025: a lecture with workshop dedicated to beekeepers;
4 June 2025: a training session with students of the Beekeeping course at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine;
19 August 2025: a study day for high school teachers.
The sessions also explored the role of wild bees, explaining why these species are so important for biodiversity, how they live, the main threats to their survival, and how each of us can contribute to their protection.
On all occasions, the Bee2gether project was presented, with a focus on the importance of pollinator diversity, the threats endangering their survival, and conservation strategies. Special attention was given to environmental monitoring through pollen collected by solitary bees, an innovative methodology that provides valuable information on environmental quality and the presence of pollutants.
The days concluded with a visit to the NIB laboratories, where participants were able to gain first-hand insight into ongoing research on pollinators and the scientific techniques used to analyze their health.
These activities are part of the knowledge transfer actions promoted by the Bee2gether project, co-financed by the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme, with the aim of raising awareness among professionals, students, teachers, and citizens about the crucial role of pollinators and the urgency of protecting them.
