TRECAP Photographic exhibition

BISHOP'S PALACE
SUMMER 2024

Photographic exhibition
A sea of experiences.
Discovering the record-breaking beaches of Eastern Venice
Focus on the Marine Oasis of Caorle: a marine area involved in European and international research projects

1 July 2024 - 15 September 2024
Portogruaro (VE), Bishop's Palace
Via del Seminario, 19

The exhibition ‘A Sea of Experiences. Discovering the record-breaking beaches of Eastern Venice’ currently underway at the Palazzo Vescovile in Portogruaro until 15 September, is enriched with a small but precious section: a special corner is dedicated to the Marine Oasis of Caorle - a protected biological zone - an area that represents a unicum of the marine ecosystem and a place of research and study at both European and international level.
Within the exhibition, which illustrates the peculiarities and richness of the historical, artistic and environmental resources of the main seaside resorts in the area through the photos of Giovanni Tagini, Milanese by adoption, specialised in travel reportage and collaborator of the main Italian tourism magazines, a very interesting photographic material made available by the Gruppo Sommozzatori di Caorle (Caorle Diving Group) is exhibited, which tells the story of the seabed.

An initial nucleus of the exhibition is on display in one of the rooms of the Palazzo, which will develop over time, thanks to the various European projects in which the municipality of Caorle is participating, with the aim of strengthening the conservation and enjoyment of the Oasis, which is home to the Tegnùe: rocks whose formation is due to calcareous algae and bio-constructing invertebrates such as corals, and an ideal environment for numerous species of fish, sponges and anemones.
But for some years now, research centres such as O.G.S. - the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics - and C.N.R. - a national research centre - have been developing experiments in the seabed of Caorle with the cultivation of Pinna nobilis, also known as noble pen shell, thanks to the funding obtained by the municipality as a partner in the project ‘Trezze, Tegnùe e ambienti marini dell'Alto Adriatico - acronym TRECap’ (Northern Adriatic Sea Trees, Tegnùe and Marine Environments - TRECap), which is part of the European cross-border cooperation Programme Interreg Italy-Slovenia VI-A 2021-2027.
Also on display at the exhibition is a specimen of Pinna Nobilis, this mollusc was already present in our seas 20 million years ago. From the Strait of Gibraltar to the gates of the Black Sea, there are none more majestic: this precious giant of the invertebrate fauna can even live up to 45 years and grow in a wonderful shell of over 120 centimetres generously covered with encrustations and microorganisms.

This is therefore a further opportunity of discovery not to be missed that, for the second summer, sees the Bishop's Palace open to the public, also providing the City and the entire territory with a true tourist infopoint service, with the possibility of retrieving brochures, flyers, and maps from all the seaside resorts of Eastern Venice and the entire territory.
