On 15–16 July 2026, an important cross-border event was held in Monfalcone as part of the KARST ADAPT project. The meeting brought together representatives of municipal administrations, Civil Protection authorities, and other Italian and Slovenian stakeholders with the aim of promoting knowledge exchange, improving preparedness for climate-related risks, and strengthening cross-border cooperation.
The first day opened at the Monfalcone Town Hall (Council Chamber) with institutional greetings from Mayor Luca Fasan, followed by remarks from the Lead Partner and other authorities.
In the afternoon, activities moved to the Monfalcone Civil Protection Headquarters, where the operational and training activities foreseen by the project took place. As part of WP2 – Activity 2.3, Deliverable D.2.3.1, Andrea Olivetti, Head of the Monfalcone Civil Protection, presented the equipment purchased through the KARST ADAPT project, explaining its features and its contribution to enhancing the municipality’s emergency response capacity.

Subsequently, under WP3 – Activity 3.1, Deliverable D.3.1.1, Quesite conducted a serious gaming (role-playing) exercise involving members of the COC (Municipal Operational Centre) of the Municipality of Monfalcone and the Municipality of Duino-Aurisina, as well as representatives of the Slovenian Civil Protection organisations from Miren-Kostanjevica and Renče-Vogrsko. The exercise enabled participants to simulate risk scenarios, test decision-making procedures, and improve coordination among the organisations involved in emergency management.
The second day, also held at the Monfalcone Civil Protection Headquarters, was entirely dedicated to the activities of WP1, with particular focus on Activity A1.3 – Adaptation and Implementation of the ReBUS and EDU-RES Tools for Local Resilience and Activity A1.4 – Strengthening Communication within Municipal Administrations.
The programme featured a participatory workshop entitled "Local Resilience and Risk Management Communication", involving municipal administrations, Civil Protection representatives, and stakeholders from Italy and Slovenia. The introduction to the WP1 activities was delivered by ISIG.
The workshop sessions addressed two main themes. The first focused on local resilience and territorial vulnerability, encouraging discussion on tools and approaches for understanding and reducing climate change-related risks. The second examined communication and coordination in risk management, with particular emphasis on the importance of cooperation among institutions and effective information sharing during emergency situations.
The event provided an important opportunity for dialogue and cooperation between Italian and Slovenian partners, contributing to the dissemination of innovative tools, the strengthening of local capacities, and the development of a more resilient and better-prepared cross-border network capable of addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
