On 6 March 2025, the final Conference of the Train Driver Communication project was held at the headquarters of the International Union of Railways (UIC) in Paris, where it has been presented the progress of T4RAIL IT-SI project. The conference gathered experts, policy makers and railway stakeholders to discuss the progress made in overcoming language barriers and improving cross-border railway operations.
RFI, the lead partner, presented the project framework, duration, budget and participating partners. SŽ-I, as project partner, focused on the activities carried out so far and the tasks to be completed before the end of the project. It has also been presented the importance of the collaboration in the sector and the challenges faced to improve interoperability taking into account the current differences between the national operational rules.
The University of Trieste, as project partner, introduced the participants the work done in cooperation with the University of Ljubljana. The results of the analysis carried out to evaluate the impact of the project on the competitiveness of cross-border rail transport, the regional economy, society and employment, territorial accessibility and the environment were presented. The analysis was based on questionnaire responses, statistical analysis, scenario development and monitoring of key performance indicators.
The project partners also answered to some questions, mainly related to the predefined messages (PDM) and the use of the translator in the real operational process.
The Conference ended by emphasizing that collaboration between railway operators, infrastructure managers, and policymakers is key to enhance cross-border railway communication and interoperability.
