As part of the activities of the T4RAIL IT-SI project, the workshop entitled “Technological opportunities in cross-border railway operations between Italy and Slovenia: challenges and potential impacts” was successfully held on 21 February at the University of Trieste, with the participation of railway companies, logistics companies and local entities responsible for transport issues.
The event opened with a presentation of the project by RFI, followed by a practical demonstration of the T4Rail tool, which participants were able to try out for themselves.
Afterwards, the University of Trieste and the University of Ljubljana presented the work done so far to inform the audience about the current state of play of the project and to start an open discussion among the participants in the form of focus groups. Notably, two focus groups were set up to address issues related to cross-border rail services between Italy and Slovenia, on the one hand, operational, economic and environmental aspects and, on the other hand, social/territorial and employment aspects.
Finally, interesting insights coming from the focus groups were shared with all the participants, enabling to envision the main strategies for increasing the competitiveness of the cross-border railway sector and, consequently, to benefit from the potential advantages related to it.
