FIRESAFENET
Specific objective: SO 4 - Promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account eco-system based approaches
Typology: Standard project
The Italy-Slovenia Programme Area faces significant challenges in the sphere of climate change and natural disasters. This was particularly evident in 2022. Due to different climate zones and diverse geography, the area is extremely fragile to the impacts of climate change, the most common consequence of which are fires. The overall objective of the project is to improve capacity for climate change adaptation and risk prevention by establishing a cross-border system for effective fire prevention, early detection and fire management.
- Improving capacities for climate change adaptation and risk prevention by establishing a cross-border system for effective fire prevention, early detection, and management;
- the development of advanced digital solutions, including an automated environmental monitoring system based on multispectral imaging and machine learning;
- capacity building of rescue units and local communities;
- the establishment of a sustainable cross-border cooperation network with joint action plans.
The main direct outputs and results of the project will be a common action plan for effective crossborder fire response, a cross-border cooperation network for fire and other natural disaster response and innovative digital solutions to support wildfire management in the cross-border area. The results will contribute to increasing the resilience of the cross-border area to natural disasters, better protection of natural and cultural heritage and increased safety of the population.
