Kras-Carso Cross-Border Geopark Week

With more than 20 free events, the Kras-Carso Cross-Border Geopark Week invites you once again to explore the transboundary Karst area. From 24 May to 8 June, the mysterious underground world, walks in the Karst glade, the rich natural and cultural heritage and extraordinary stories will offer a wide range of free events that will connect the cross-border area of the emerging Kras-Carso Geopark into a space of new experiences and adventures within the framework of the KRAS-CARSO II project (Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme 2021-2027).

The Kras-Carso Cross-Border Geopark Week is organised by the ORA Krasa in Brkinov in cooperation with the partners of the KRAS-CARSO II project and a number of local organisations on both sides of the border. The events, which are free of charge thanks to the project funding (KRAS-CARSO II project), once again offer an active leisure time, a relaxed exploration of the natural and cultural heritage and geology. Alenka Maffi, Project Manager, ORA Krasa in Brkinov, emphasises: "Kras-Carso Cross-Border Geopark Week follows the fundamental objectives of the KRAS-CARSO II project - to implement sustainable experiences and practices that preserve, maintain and enthuse visitors about the rich natural and cultural heritage of the area."  

More than 20 free events highlighting the key features of life in the cross-border area of the Karst will delight visitors with hikes, bike rides, lectures, workshops and excursions. The events will provide an opportunity to explore the geological features and specificities of the individual micro-locations of the emerging geopark, experience the rich biodiversity of the area, try your hand at traditional dry-wall building and stone shaping, peek into the underground world of caves and quarrying, and learn how the Crassians have adapted and are still adapting their life in this rugged area to the natural environment.

The Geopark, which is being created in the cross-border area of the Karst region, will certainly enrich the cross-border tourism offer, further linking providers from both sides of the border and offering new facilities to visitors.
