What if we saw waste not as a problem, but as an opportunity? Project Waste Design 2.0 explores exactly that – how waste materials can be reused, how we can reduce our environmental footprint, and at the same time create new business opportunities. This cross-border initiative, connecting Slovenian and Italian partners, is dedicated to developing innovative solutions for more efficient waste management and a more sustainable future.
As part of the project, partners gathered for a working meeting in Izola, Slovenia, to review progress in developing and testing innovative technologies that will enhance waste management and facilitate reuse. Key topics included improvements in separate waste collection and the introduction of new technologies that promote a circular economy. A particular focus of the meeting was the preparation of the third financial report, ensuring transparency in project implementation and allocated funds. The meeting also provided an opportunity to visit underground waste collection bins in Izola, a prime example of good practices in sustainable waste collection and separation.
Funded by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme, Waste Design 2.0 aims to support the transition to a circular economy and reduce the environmental impact of waste. Improved waste management systems lead to fewer illegal dumpsites, a cleaner environment, and smarter use of resources. Within the project, partners have been developing new, more sustainable waste management models while also raising awareness of the importance of green habits in everyday life of each individual.
