On March 27 and 28, 2025, the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy organized the Interreg GO! event, which marked an important milestone in preparing Interreg programs for the post-2027 period. The event took place in the twin cities of Gorizia (Italy) and Nova Gorica (Slovenia) — jointly named European Capitals of Culture 2025 — and attracted 500 local, regional, national, and European decision-makers, including key policymakers such as Mr. Raffaele Fitto, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for Cohesion and Reforms; Ms. Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement; as well as ministers and senior representatives from Slovenia, Poland, and the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
The main discussions focused on how Interreg programs within cohesion policy will address common challenges, including border security, coordinated responses to migration, environmental threats, natural disaster prevention, and removing barriers in public services. Collaboration with EU candidate countries and neighboring states was also emphasized, including areas in the most remote EU regions.
After the official ceremony, attendees split into groups; at the Palmanova Operational Center, they received detailed presentations on the CROSSIT SAFER projects and related projects developed as capitalization results thereof. Our CROSS ALERT project was also presented in the context of building synergies.
Visitors expressed enthusiasm about the joint efforts and tangible results achieved in civil protection through our cross-border cooperation.
