The Final Conference of T4RAIL IT SI project organised by SŽ-Infrastruktura took place on 15 April 2026 in Ljubljana, bringing together project partners, associated partners, experts and stakeholders from Italy and Slovenia. The event marked a successful conclusion of a cross border collaboration aimed at improving multilingual communication and interoperability in railway operations, while also providing an opportunity to exchange views on future developments and challenges in the sector.
The programme focused on the presentation of the project’s key results, with special attention given to the Translate4Rail language tool, including its development, risk assessment and field testing in cross border operational settings. Practical experiences were shared by freight railway undertakings involved in the project, highlighting lessons learned and the benefits of digital solutions for safety and efficiency in rail traffic, particularly in real operational environments.
A dedicated panel addressed broader perspectives and future challenges at the EU level, featuring contributions from representatives of the Baltic-Adriatic Rail Freight Corridor (RFC5) and the Mediterranean Rail Freight Corridor (RFC6) as well as the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA). The discussion underlined the importance of cooperation, standardisation and alignment with TEN T operational priorities for the future deployment of such tools, emphasising the need for coordinated approaches across multiple stakeholders.
The conference concluded with presentations by project partners from the University of Trieste and the University of Ljubljana, who explored the socio economic and environmental impacts of the project and its relevance for cross border regions. Overall, the event confirmed T4RAIL IT SI as an important step towards safer, more efficient and digitally supported cross border railway communication, while also pointing to opportunities for further improvements, research and future projects.
