The operational tests of the T4RAIL IT-SI project were successfully completed, marking a further step forward in the experimentation of the Translate4Rail Language Tool along the Italy–Slovenia border. The tests were successfully carried out on 18 and 19 March 2026 on two cross border railway sections: Sežana–Villa Opicina and Bivio d'Aurisina on the first day, and Gorizia Centrale–Nova Gorica on the second.
At these stations, train drivers from the project partners exchanged operational communications with signalers using the Translate4Rail tool, verifying the system’s functionality and handling of operational messages (PDMs), as well as its performance in a railway context.
The tests were carried out in an operational environment based on operational scenarios agreed among the project partners, allowing the evaluation of interactions between drivers and traffic controllers from the two networks and testing the effectiveness of the tool in different operational situations. Instructors on board ensured the correct execution of the operations and full compliance with safety requirements.
This session represents the final phase of testing planned within the project. The overall results of the tests, together with the evidence collected throughout the various operational phases, will be presented on 15 April 2026 at the Final Conference of the T4RAIL IT-SI project, where the potential of the Translate4Rail Language Tool will be showcased, as well as the progress made towards achieving more efficient and interoperable cross border railway communication.
