The first field tests of the T4RAIL IT–SI project were successfully carried out on Thursday, 18 December 2025, marking a significant milestone in the project’s implementation.
The tests were carried out at Villa Opicina station with a locomotive in standstill, where drivers from project partners RCC SI, RCC IT, and SŽ-Tovorni promet exchanged operational communications with the signalers of Villa Opicina and Sežana using the Translate4Rail tool in a real railway environment.
Additional tests were performed at Udine Parco station, where train drivers from project partner InRail established communication with signalers of Nova Gorica, further experimenting with the tool in a different operational context.
This experimentation phase enabled the project partners to assess the functionality of the tool, such as PDMs selection and voice recognition, and to evaluate user interaction in a safe and controlled environment. The data and feedback collected during the tests will be analyzed to prepare for the next tests.
The initial field tests confirmed the correct setup and functioning of the Translate4Rail tool under controlled and safe conditions. This represents a key step towards the next testing phases of the T4RAIL IT–SI project.
