As part of the IN4SAFETY project, an exercise aimed at members of the Municipal Operations Center (COC) of the Municipality of Gorizia took place on Monday 7 and Wednesday 9 April 2025. The activity represents a fundamental preparatory stage in view of the large field exercise scheduled for June 2025, which will involve approximately 500 volunteers from the cross-border area (Italy-Slovenia) and from beyond the border (Austria, Germany, Croatia).
The exercise was organized and coordinated by the Civil Protection Service of the Municipality of Gorizia and saw the participation of approximately 35 people, including representatives of the main municipal services and strategic organizations for emergency management, including the regional Civil Protection, the Fire Brigade, the municipal Civil Protection, and other key players in the area.
Also present were representatives of the Municipalities of Monfalcone and Duino-Aurisina, partners of the KARST ADAPT project, with which important synergies have been activated aimed at strengthening the resilience of the cross-border territory.
During the activity, participants were introduced to the risk scenarios developed by the Civil Protection Service of the Municipality of Gorizia and took part in an operational simulation, comparing and collaborating in the search for effective solutions to ensure a timely and coordinated response to the emergency.
Within the very same project and on the same days, the Municipal Operations Centers of Nova Gorica, Šempeter-Vrtojba, Miren-Kostanjevica and Renče-Vogrsko were also engaged in similar table-top exercises, confirming the joint and cross-border approach to emergency management. In collaboration with the Gasilska Enota Nova Gorica (GENG), shared cross-border scenarios were developed, operationally tested on both the Italian and Slovenian sides, promoting an important comparison between the operational structures of the two countries.
A crucial moment of training, sharing and collaboration between bodies and institutions, laying the foundations for an even more solid joint action during the next field exercise, and in case of emergencies.
